Kitchen Appliances at the Prescott Design Center

The essentials needed in every kitchen are a stove and oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher, however more than one cooking appliance is common in most of today’s kitchen such as cook tops, ovens and ranges.

Ovens today may be basic or they may multitask and combine higher speed convection cooking along with conventional methods. Some ovens also double as microwaves. Ranges and cook tops come in gas or electric but also now gaining popularity is the induction method of cooking.

In this method electricity flows through a coil to produce a magnetic field under a ceramic surface. When an iron pan or a magnetic stainless pot is placed above it on the ceramic surface the pan rather than the ceramic surface heats up.

Inform Yourself Before you buy your Appliances

If cooking is high on your priority list you may wish to consider a commercial cooking appliance in your kitchen.

Several new configurations in refrigerators have appeared in recent years. The most common is still the traditional freezer-on-top model but many variations are available such as side by side refrigerator/freezer or the bottom freezer with the cold food up at eye level. Some configurations are quite deep to accomplish higher capacity.

Consider what add-on options will be useful to you.

  • Frost free?
  • Ice maker?
  • Water dispenser?
  • Built-in television?
  • Even more important, what size is right for your situation?

Dishwashers vary in features and sound-level.

  • Are you in or near the kitchen when it is running?
  • Does an economy cycle or half-load setting appeal to you?

Dishwasher drawers, which can be used in one or two drawer configurations are a good choice for smaller kitchens and are often used as secondary dishwashers.

Beyond the Essentials
The list of available extras include trash compactors, warming ovens, built-in coffeemakers, under-counter wine coolers and television screens.

Finishes and Energy Efficiency
Stainless Steel and black are both strong finishes but oiled bronze is another finish to consider in some decors. Do consider maintenance when making your choice. And if cost of operation is of concern you can look at the yellow tags of spec sheets to guide you.
